Toward a design approach to foreign language writing instruction

Abstract
Our presentation argues for an integrated ‘design’ approach to FL writing through interview data collected from learners and instructors in lower-level French courses. After briefly situating a literacy-oriented conceptualization of writing and its relation to reading, we define and describe a ‘design’ approach to FL writing instruction.
