Abstract

This is the derivation of a dimensionless formula (angle-angle relation) which is independent of radius of the sphere & holds good for any spherical surface to find out angle between the chords of any two great arcs meeting each other at a common end point at some angle. It is used to find out the minimum distance between any two points on a spherical surface of finite radius. It can also be used to find out the length of any one of two intersecting great circle arcs if length of other arc, radius of sphere, angle of intersection & plane angle of chords are known.
