About Gwendolyn C.H. Bakx

Having finished the Royal Military Academy and Military Flight School, I started my career as a helicopter pilot with the Royal Netherlands Air Force. Most of the time I combined flying with managing people.
During 10 years of operational flying I have been on several missions abroad. Thereafter I have been working as a Flight Safety Manager and Human Factors Specialist at the Royal Netherlands Air Force Headquarters. Currently I work as an assistant professor in Human Factors and System Safety at the Netherlands Defence Academy.
I have completed a master in Work and Organizational Psychology at the Dutch Open University and another master in Human Factors & System Safety at the School of Aviation at the University of Lund (Sweden).
PhD research I conduct on the sociology of safety in large scale military (socio-)technological system such as military Unmanned Aerial Systems (UASs). The main question to be answered in this research is how a focus on social dynamics can conceptualize risk and safety management in these systems.
