About Gregory Lewkowicz

Former fellow of the National Fund for Scientific Research (F.R.S-FNRS), Gregory Lewkowicz is professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and full member of the Perelman Centre for Legal Philosophy of the Law Faculty.
His research focuses broadly on both the transformations of contemporary law and the hypothesis of the emergence of a global law and, on the other hand, on legal and political philosophy. He has a special interest in the intellectual history of international law and in the philosophy of international law and relations.
At the ULB, he teaches or has taught political philosophy, legal philosophy or jurisprudence and research methodology. He was invited professor in legal philosophy at the Artois University Law School (2007-2008), invited lecturer in philosophy of international law at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques of Paris (Science-Po Paris, 2009-2010) and invited professor in philosophy of international law at the Lille Free University Law School (2010-2011). Since 2008, he has been co-holder of the Chair " Law, Governance and Sustainable Development” at the Faculté Universitaire Saint-Louis Law School.
Gregory Lewkowicz has supervised several research projects like the program “The Global Challenges of International Terrorism and the Rule of Law : reflections and discussions on the EU-US relationship in the fight against terrorism” funded by the Delegation of the European Commission in Washington, the ATLAS project, “Armed Conflicts, Peacekeeping, Transitional Justice : Law as Solution”, funded by the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union, or the JANUS project, “Joint Academics for New Understanding of Shifting International Law and Relations”, funded by the French Community of Belgium.
He has published several books and papers and recently : Responsabilités des entreprises et corégulation (Bruxelles, Bruylant, 2007), Juger les droits de l’homme : Europe et Etats-Unis face à face (Bruxelles, Bruylant, 2008) and Repenser le contrat (Paris, Dalloz, 2009).
Gregory Lewkowicz was Secretary of the Belgian Philosophical Society (2008-2010) and expert for the Fonds zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Forschung (Vienna). He is a member of the European Society of International Law (ESIL) and of the International Association for Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy (IVR). Since 2006, he has been the Secretary of the series “Penser le droit” for the legal publisher Bruylant. Between 2007 and 2011, he was a member of the board of the Université Libre de Bruxelles.
