Guerrilla Bike Lanes and Other Acts of Civic Improvement Through Civil Disobedience
Architect (2012)
  • Gordon Douglas, University of Chicago
Abstract
The article discusses informal design interventions, such as the painting of a new bicycle lane in Los Angeles, California by a group of friends in July 2008, which aim to improve civic life in urban communities. These acts of civil disobedience, the author suggests, are small, locally motivated actions that seek to rectify specific problems. It is suggested that despite their small size, these interventions make an important impact on urban life.
