Abstract
U.S. public health activities are performed through a constellation of organizations operating at national, state, and local levels that vary widely in their authority, mission, and resources. This chapter reviews the contemporary organizational landscape of the American public health system and identifies opporrtunities for improving its operation and outcomes.
