Evolution in Public Health Systems and their Contributions to Population Health

Abstract
This session describes new empirical approaches for classifying and comparing public health delivery systems based on their organizational and network characteristics.  Using these classification systems together with quasi-experimental methods for causal inference, we estimate health and economic outcomes that are attributable to improvements in public health delivery systems. Results indicate that strong systems contribute to sizable gains in health status and slower rates of growth in medical costs over time.
