Pesticide Use in Italian Food Production
BioScience (1983)
  • Gigi Berardi, Western Washington University
Abstract
Italian agriculture is highly energy efficient due to low machinery and fuel use. Pesticides will represent one-third of the total energy used in crop production by 1988, following a 66% increase in pesticide use over 1978. Many of the pesticides used in Italy today have been cancelled or restricted for use in the United States.
