Abstract

What attracted me to the SALT® journals, the Journal of Instruction Delivery Systems (JIDS), and the Journal of Interactive Instruction Development (JIID) some 20 years ago, was the elegance of the language in most of the articles and in all of the columns written by Raymond Fox, the publisher. My parents were always attuned to language and required that I speak “the king’s English” at all times. Because we were always close and both were alive and well into their nineties, I received a great deal of tutoring in what was and was not acceptable. All language evolves but some of the recent changes to the American written and spoken language fall very short of being elegant.
