Abstract
The article focuses on Herbert Marshall McLuhan (1911–1980) and Jacques Ellul (1912–1994) were leading and foundational scholars in the emerging field of media ecology. Topics include McLuhan the Canadian communication philosopher and helped change the focus of communication scholarship from studies solely based on content to the study of the effects of communication, and Ellul the French sociologist, philosopher, and has had a lasting influence on the study of technology, and rhetoric.
