Urban Congregations of Capital and Communications: Redesigning Social and Spatial Boundaries
In search of boundaries : communication, nation-states, and cultural identities (2002)

Abstract
The infrastructure of information and communication technology (ICT) has coevolved with
industry and transportation as a central property of the metropolis, bringing new symbolic
landscapes and cultural meanings to urban life. Local, national, and increasingly globalized
information and communication networks have broadly inflated a range of social and spatial
boundaries, that is, the reach of active social connectivity, yet they remain unmistakably
centered in the metropolitan core
