About George E. Walker

George Walker is a national leader in research and graduate education. He served for 12 years as the Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate School at Indiana University. Dr. Walker then served as Director of the Carnegie Initiative on the Doctorate at the Carnegie Foundation. His work at Carnegie, captured in several books on doctoral education, provides a foundation for understanding the needs and goals of doctoral education - a roadmap for bringing a new paradigm to doctoral education. Dr. Walker has served since 2006 as Senior Vice President for Research Development and Graduate Education at Florida International University.
George Walker is a theoretical physicist. He was a member of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Physics and Advanced Technology Committee, and chaired its Physics and Advanced Technology Directorate Advisory Committee, as well as the Nuclear Division Advisory Committee. Currently, he is a member of the National Advisory Board of the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL). Among many other Boards, Dr. Walker has served as president of the Association of Graduate Schools of the Association of American Universities, as Chair of the Board of the Council of Graduate Schools, and as member of the National Advisory Board of the National Survey of Student Engagement.
