Biography
George Palton is originally from Cleveland, Ohio and earned a Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Kentucky in 2008. George also received his Master’s Degree at the University of Kentucky where he studied tuba with Dr. Skip Gray. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and Music Performance on the tuba at Bowling Green State University where his tuba instructor was Velvet Brown. While he was a resident in Northwest Ohio, George was the tubist for the Glass City Brass Quintet, a professional brass quintet in the Toledo area. He also served as the principal tubist for the Lima Symphony Orchestra during the 2002-2003 season.
George is sought after as a performer and clinician both regionally and throughout the country. He recently performed at the 2008 International Tuba Euphonium Conference where he premiered Azucar! by Alice Gomez. He also has given solo performances at the 2007 Midwest Regional and North-East Regional Tuba Euphonium Conferences and the 2006 Phi Mu Alpha National Convention. His accomplishments include winning 1st Place in the Tuba Artist Competition at the 2006 International Tuba Euphonium Conference and 2nd place at the 2006 Potomac Festival.
In addition to his performing and teaching activities, he is an active arranger and developer of pedagogical materials. He has published his research and arrangements in the International Tuba Euphonium Association Journal, Tuba-Euphonium Press, and Cimarron Music. George is very active teaching in the public schools and is currently serving as the Instructor of Tuba at Marshall University in Huntington, WV.
