About Geoffrey P Martin

Geoff Martin is an Associate Professor of Strategy at Melbourne Business School. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Commerce (UNSW, 1992), Chartered Accounting (Deloitte, Sydney 1993), an MBA from Melbourne Business School (2001) and a PhD in Management at IE Business School (Madrid, Spain). Geoff has worked in chartered accounting, the energy industry in finance roles, strategy consulting (in South Africa/Australia), retail banking as Head of Market Risk Audit at Egg Online Bank (London), investment banking as Vice President of Operational Risk with Credit Suisse (London and Singapore). Geoff has published in the leading practitioner and academic journals, including Harvard Business Review, Strategic Management Journal, the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Journal of Business Ethics and Management Research. His research interests cover strategic decision making, executive compensation, risk and corporate governance. Geoff teaches Business and Corporate Strategy at MBS, is also involved with Executive Education including tailored education for corporate along with open programs (Advanced Management Program and General Management Program) and independent consulting. Firms he has worked with as an executive education provider or consultant include a range of high profile clients, including CSL, Telkom Indonesia, Clemenger (Marketing/Advertising), Nissan Australia, Z Energy (NZ), Citipower/Powercor, Astro (Media/Malaysia), Manulife, Tenaga (Indonesia), Ports Australia and the Australian Institute of Sport. 

Geoff works with MBS's Indigenous Leader's program (Murra), Social Trader's Crunch program that provides consulting expertise to a wide range of social enterprises and has worked with the Asylum Seeker's Resource Centre. He has worked with a HIV services charity in Grahamstown South Africa and with Raleigh International as a Team Leader/Youth Counsellor in Patagonia Chile.

Geoff has published in the leading practitioner and academic journals, including Harvard Business Review, the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Journal of Business Ethics and Human Resource Management. His research interests cover strategic decision making, executive compensation, deviant executive behavior, risk taking and corporate governance.
