About Greg Brooks, D.N.P., APRN, FNP-BC

Dr. Greg Brooks (aka, "Dr. B" to his students), is a faculty member at Harding's Carr College of Nursing.

Dr. Brooks obtained his nursing degree in 1996 and worked in ICU and Cardiac Units at Presbyterian hospital. He attended the graduate program at Oklahoma University Health Science Center in Oklahoma City and began practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2000. As an FNP, he worked in ER and an orthopedic office in Ponca City and Oklahoma City, where he developed a passion for radiology and suturing. As a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, he teaches basic and advanced suturing and radiology at the state and national level. Each summer he teaches Basic and Advanced suturing at AANP's national conference.

In 2003, he began his work as a clinical instructor at OUHSC's FNP program, where he first began teaching FNP students. He obtained his DNP at the University of Arizona in 2011, where he was a part of the inaugural cohort to begin his practice doctorate. His project, titled, "Improving the Management of Patients with Type-2 Diabetes in a Rural Clinic," helped transform many NP managed clinics in the state of Oklahoma and helped bring about an awareness of quality improvement initiatives in underserved areas of the state.
In 2012, Dr. Brooks began the state's first DNP program in the state of Oklahoma at the Kramer School of Nursing at Oklahoma City University. As the DNP program director, he worked to ensure FNP students were engaged as competent primary care providers in the state of Oklahoma, supporting the vision of AANP on a national level.

In 2015, Dr. Brooks began his work at the Carr College of Nursing. He was the Associated Dean of the Carr College of Nursing and was the FNP program director of the first FNP cohort before stepping down to become the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs. He teaches Health Assessment and Diagnostic Reasoning, Faith Christian Ethics and Interprofessional Collaboration, and Population Health and Epidemiology. He is active in missions work and is the Chair of the Student Services committee. Dr. Brooks also serves on several university committees and is a board member of the Interprofessional education steering committee. He is a member of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty (NONPF) where he has had multiple presentations accepted reviewing the education of radiology and FNP student engagement for presentation in front of faculty across the United States. He is also a member of the NONPF's Special Interest Group for International Health and Missions. Dr. Brooks was honored by his peers with the 2019-2020 Teacher Achievement Award for Harding University.

Dr. Brooks is married to Deana Brooks since 1996 and has 4 wonderful children who he enjoys spending time. He enjoys woodworking when he can, and smoking meat for his family, friends, and students. He attends the College church of Christ, where he is active as a deacon in education, serving on several committees including missions. He enjoys mission trips to Jamaica, Tanzania, and Guatemala.
