About Gayla R. Olbricht

Dr. Gayla R. Olbricht was promoted to associate professor of mathematics and statistics with tenure September 1, 2017.

An applied statistician, Dr. Olbricht’s research focuses on the statistical modeling of biological data. Her work involves many interdisciplinary collaborations with scientists investigating a variety of biological questions.  Application areas include:  
  • Genomics, epigenomics, and bioinformatics
  • Modeling sleep in Drosophila melanogaster
  • Modeling heterogeneity in autism spectrum disorder
Other interests include: 
  • Involving undergraduates in statistical research through Missouri S & T's OURE program and a mini-grant from the NSF funded Center for Undergraduate Research in Mathematics (CURM). 
  • Inquiry-based math and science integration in K-12 education. Actively involved as a Co-PI of the Science Education and Quantitative Literacy (SEQL) professional development program for 3rd-5th grade teachers (funded by MDHE).
