Abstract
The talk will introduce and explicate the neologism “necroecology” as a critical, philosophical approach for studying human-nonhuman relations in the context of colonialism and its continuing aftermath alongside naming an aesthetic that originates in the mid-nineteenth century as an epiphenomenon of the Indian Mutiny of 1857, and which is best comprehended in contrast to the better known nineteenth-century aesthetic of the picturesque.
