About Fritz Hamer

Fritz Hamer is the Curator of the Published Materials Division (Books) at the South Caroliniana Library. He received his B.A. in history from Acadia University (1976), his M.A. in public history from the University of South Carolina (1982), and his Ph.D. in history also from the University of South Carolina (1998). Prior to coming to the South Caroliniana Library, he was the Chief Curator of History at the S.C. State Museum 1990-2011 and Assistant Curator of History at the Museum 1986-1990. During this time he curated over 15 major exhibits and co-curated others, authored or co-authored several books, wrote many articles, made many presentations to professional organizations, and was awarded numerous grants. He serves, or has served, on numerous Boards, among them being the S.C. Heritage Land Trust, the State Historic Preservation Review Board, and the South Carolina Historical Association, where he served as president (2000-2001) and is currently serving as vice president of the same organization for 2011-12.
