Una Voz de la Frontera: On Oppression and Countering the Hegemonic Tide
Multicultural Perspectives (2000)

Abstract
This article details the way that social and cultural oppression continues today in the United States. A central strategy for continuing oppression is the myth making that advances cultural hegemony. In education, these myths prevent academic equity. But this article also seeks to highlight those strategies that I believe will help us turn against the hegemonic tide-strategies that at once expose oppression as it actually gets played out in the everyday activities in schooling and that simultaneously point to a new way, a new vision of thinking about schooling. At end, however, I argue that these new visions must be rooted in a moral, critical view of schooling.
