About Firas Zahwe, MD

I listen to my patients and do my best to make their quality of life better by treating their arrhythmia and preventing life-threatening conditions including sudden cardiac death, stroke and heart failure. I believe in patient-centered care planning with the physician and patient making decisions together.

I provide complex arrhythmia mapping and ablation including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia and ventricular arrhythmia; non-pharmacological stroke management and prevention including left atrial appendage occlusion and exclusion devices; advanced lead and device management including ICD and pacemaker implantation, biventricular device implantation, subcutaneous ICD implantation, leadless pacemaker and laser lead extraction.

Additionally, I am interested in atrial fibrillation screening, management and prevention. I participate in clinical research to improve patient care and am part of multiple local research studies.

I earned my medical degree at Tishreen University College of Medicine in Latakia, Syria, and completed my residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine / Advocate Christ Medical Center. I went on to complete fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease, Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology and Advanced Electrophysiology at Aurora Health Care in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and am triple board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

In my free time, I enjoy traveling and outdoor activities with my family, reading and hiking.
