Omar Malik Associate Professor in the School of Management Disciplines Business Engineering Social and Behavioral Sciences Research Interests My research interests span three domains: Strategy, International Business and Data-science. My current research that intersects strategy and data-science looks at the emergence of data-science, as a dynamic capability, in business organizations. This research takes a mixed-methods approach to examining emergence of dynamic capabilities. In a separate paper, I am also looking at ‘Big Data’, as a social-science concept, and clarifying its theoretical value. Over the last few years, I have developed deep skills in visualization, advanced statistics and Machine Learning (ML). I will be applying these skills in applied research within organizations by developing ML models that facilitate organizational decision-making. In this context, I am working on a Natural Language Processing (NLP) application that evaluates the quality of contractual agreements between various parties. This is an application of ML to the legal domain. I am especially interested in applications of neural networks and reinforcement learning within organizations.
