About Erica Chirico

Erica N. Chirico, PhD, has joined CMSRU’s full time faculty as Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Chirico earned her doctorate in Vascular Physiology from the University of Lyon in Lyon, France. She then completed a postdoc fellowship in Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania, and continued a second postdoc fellowship in the University of Pennsylvania’s PENN-PORT program, a dual teaching and research fellowship.

Dr. Chirico’s past research interest focused on the role of exercise on oxidative stress and inflammation in vascular disease, such as atherosclerosis, sickle cell disease, and myocardial infarction. Her future research will include medical education research.

Dr. Chirico will teach physiology sections of Fundamentals, Skin & Musculoskeletal, and Cardiovascular courses. She is also a facilitator for Active Learning Groups, guiding students through the basic science of clinical cases.
