Teaching MLA Citation Format Using an Open Source Web Based Drag and Drop Activity
Illinois Association of College and Research Libraries Conference (2014)
  • Eric A. Kowalik, Marquette University
  • Valerie Beech, Marquette University
Abstract

Do your students' eyes glaze over when you discuss citations and their various formats? Then this web based active learning activity may be the solution for you. Students are asked to identify parts of a published work needed for citation, i.e. author, publication, etc., by dragging and dropping the pieces to the appropriate box, students are also asked to identify the publication type.

Try it for yourself at http://go.mu.edu/english1001-cites. Like what you see? The project code is open source and can be downloaded from the following URL: https://github.com/MarquetteRML/MLA-citation-drag-and-drop. Please feel free to build and expand on the original code!

A similar version of this poster was also presented at the 2014 Michigan Library Association Annual Conference in Grand Rapids, MI.
