  • Elizabeth A Hartnell-Young, Dr, Melbourne Graduate School of Education
Abstract
Whether our students are achieving highly or not, as educators we know there is always room for improvement. This session aims to help educators avoid drowning in data, and to learn more about how data and evidence can assist school improvement goals. Drawing on examples from schools around Australia, the presenter looks at how individual schools work towards school improvement as well as some of the benefits of schools working together. School improvement is an ongoing challenge. But with clear planning, useful data, and the knowledge that you are not alone, it's possible to achieve. Using examples from a range of Australian schools, you will learn more about:
  • Why a school improvement plan is important
  • Big data and small data, and what data are useful for different purposes.
  • Ways to gather useful data.
  • Gaining insights from the data.
Participants are encouraged to reflect on their role as a leader in a school and as a member of the education community.
