Abstract
This study surveys students to determine the most influential factors in their choice of accounting as a major. In a survey instrument, intermediate accounting students were asked to rank on a scale of 1 to 4, eleven factors influencing their selection of a major. The results of T-tests confirm that good job opportunities, high earnings potential, and genuine interest in the field are the major factors attracting students, regardless of gender or native language. The study also finds that women and students whose first language is not English are attracted to accounting because of the perceived ease in earning good grades and a degree.
