Abstract
Results of the portion of the Beaufort County Comprehensive Plan public participation strategy dedicated to developing the Vision Statement for the County. The resulting Vision Statement is detailed in the 1995 Plan. A multi-technique approach to public participation was used to ensure that as many residents of the County as possible were included. The strategy for the Vision Statement included a written survey that was included in the local newspaper and in County utility bills, a slide survey of visual preferences that was administered at workshops in each Planning Area, and summaries of each Planning Area workshop focused on developing a Vision Statement for the County. There were five Planning Areas in the County: St. Helena Island, Lady's Island, Sheldon Township, Beaufort/Port Royal, and the Southern Beaufort Planning Area.
