About Elizabeth Downes

Elizabeth (Beth) Downes is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Physician Assistant program at Sacred Heart University. She completed her Physician Assistant education and Masters of Health Science from Duke University in 2008. She has been a hematology/oncology PA for 15 years, working in both the inpatient and outpatient settings at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Whittingham Cancer Center at Norwalk Hospital. Her primary areas of clinical interest are classical and malignant hematology, palliative and end of life care, clinical procedures, and infectious diseases of the immunocompromised/neutropenic patient. In June 2022 she transitioned to a full-time role as Clinical Assistant Professor and Principal Faculty at the Sacred Heart University Physician Assistant Program in Stamford, CT. In this role she has teaching responsibilities spanning both didactic and clinical year as well as administrative responsibilities including student advising, admissions, curriculum development, and committee work. She also continues to work clinically on a per diem basis at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine on the inpatient hematologic malignancy services.
