About Elizabeth Curry

Dr. Elizabeth Curry became the dean of the UNF Thomas G. Carpenter Library in 2014. She spent ten years as a teacher and administrator in experimental and alternative educational settings before obtaining her Master’s degree in Library and Information Management  from Emory University and her PhD in Communication from the University of South Florida. Dr. Curry’s research interests centered on organizational communication, participatory action research, poetic activism, communicating empowerment, collegiality, and using stories to create meaning.  Her research site was a domestic violence center where she served as a volunteer and then Assistant Director  studying the culture and language of empowerment with the workers.  Previously at the College of Central Florida she was the Dean for Learning Resources including the Library, Learning Support Center, Distance Learning Unit, the Office of Professional Development and the Teaching and Learning Institute. Throughout her career Dr. Elizabeth Curry has been committed to service, innovation and the power of collaboration.  Dr. Curry has over 25 years working in many different types of libraries and library networks. She has  been a consultant and trainer specializing in leadership, staff development, and strategic planning. Dr. Curry pioneered Florida’s highly successful state-wide training project, the Sunshine State Library Leadership Institute.  She held positions as Executive Director of SEFLIN – the Southeast Florida Library & Information Network, Marketing Manager for a ten state library network, and Library Development Consultant for the State Library of Florida.  She has been an adjunct instructor for the University of South Florida’s Library School.  Dr. Curry has served on various community boards, held leadership positions with the American Library Association, the Florida Library Association, the Florida Association of College and Research Libraries and the Northeast Florida Library & Information Network.
