About Eleni Karageorgiou

My research areas cover refugee and migration law, both from an international human rights and European law perspective.
I am currently pursuing a doctoral project on solidarity and responsibility sharing for persons in need of protection within the EU and between the EU and third countries.
The project seeks to analyze the distributive effects of the sharing mechanisms within the Common European Asylum System (reception, Dublin returns, resettlement, financial contributions, harmonization of asylum legislation) and the way they trigger solidarity and justice. It further attempts to develop theories and methods to understand the concepts of solidarity and fair sharing of responsibility as enshrined in Art. 80 TFEU.
The project is part of the Lund/Uppsala Migration Law Network (L/UMIN) and is kindly funded by Uppsala and Lund Universities jointly with the European Refugee Fund.
