About Edward D. Zaron

Dr. Edward D. Zaron is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Portland State University. Dr. Zaron received his BS in Applied Mathematics from Harvey Mudd College in 1988, and his PhD in Physical Oceanography from Oregon State University in 1995. From 1996 through 2001 he worked as a Montessori Middle and High School educator and during that time he contributed to the nascent Montessori adolescent curriculum.
Dr. Zaron's current research interests include ocean forecasting, ocean tides, and laboratory-scale models of atmospheric and oceanic flows. His research involves the development of innovative data analysis methods, for example, the mapping of underwater topography via remote-sensing. Ongoing research is leading to a better mapping of coastal and internal tides, and an improved understanding of tidal dissipation.
