Abstract
A 15 yrs old boy, with a past history of an abscess in dorsoulnar aspect of left upper forearm, presented with ulnar deviation deformity of left wrist. The deformity at wrist manifested itself completely on palmar flexion but disappeared on dorsiflexion. Extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU) tendon became taut on attempting radial deviation. Rest of the examination was normal. Plain radiographs were normal. A provisional diagnosis of post-infective contracture of ECU was considered. An 18 yrs old boy, with a past history of trauma to palmer ulnar aspect of left wrist and forearm, presented with ulnar deviation and flexion deformity of left wrist. The deformity at wrist manifested itself completely on attempted dorsiflexion but disappeared on palmer flexion. Flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU) tendon became taut on attempting radial deviation. Rest of the examination was normal. Plain radiographs were within normal limits. A provisional diagnosis of post-infective contracture of FCU tendon was considered. Both the cases were by Z-plasty of ECU/FCU tendon respectively. Postoperative course was uneventful and outcome was a well functioning hand without deformity in both the cases.
