Abstract

This chapter briefly offers a rationale for reuse analysis in historical archaeology, illustrated with a modern material-culture study. The study serves to define some of the pitfalls and potentials of reuse analysis in a cultural context that is familiar, but not so familiar that the results are easily anticipated. I conclude that the analysis of reuse is necessary to gain a full understanding of material use, even in recent time periods.
