Excerpts, from a 2013 National Park Service report of the history of Isle au Haut, illustrate what the residents livng in that area experienced in the early 1960s when visitors came to the island. There was no formal entrance to the park on Isle au Haut and it was largely undeveloped.Some visitors had picnics and pitched their tents in residents' yards. [illustration]
