Abstract

The gamma-ray lines emitted when 56Ni decays to 56Fe are shown to provide a photon flux which is a significant fraction of the diffuse background near 1 MeV. Successful measurement of the line profties can reveal both the present and past rates of nucleosynthesis in the Universe.
