About Donald E. Hagen

Donald E. Hagen, Emeritus Professor of Physics (Ph.D., Purdue University, 1970), pursues a combination of experimental and theoretical research in the fields of nucleation, cluster modeling, water microphysics, and aerosol science. His combustion aerosol studies have focused on the environmental effects of advanced commercial aircraft engines, and have led to sampling campaigns at ground-based industrial sites and in the upper atmosphere. He is using laboratory cloud chambers to simulate various cloud and ice nucleation processes.

Dr. Hagen directs the Cloud and Aerosol Science Laboratory (CASL) and leads a major research program studying of combustion aerosols, with a focus on gas turbine and rocket engine sources, and the evolution of these aerosols in the atmosphere. He is a principal investigator on research grants sponsored by NASA, AFOSR, USAF, USNAVY, Boeing, Pratt & Whitney, General Electric, the European Economic Community, the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense, and Princeton University.
