Development of fuzzy simulator for DC machine modelling

There are a large number of software tools like MATLAB, DYNAMO, MATHEMATICA and MACSYMA available to simulate the dynamics of a given system. These simulators are flexible, user friendly and well documented. Software like MATLAB have a variety of toolboxes such as control system, neural networks, fuzzy logic, etc. However, these software packages do not support fuzzy dynamic simulation which may be linear or nonlinear in nature. An attempt has been made to develop a software package which supports fuzzy simulation as well as can be used for educating students with concepts such as system dynamics simulation using causal loops. At the same time, this package has been visualised to accomodate variations in defining fuzzy variables, fuzzy membership functions, fuzzy connectives, fuzzy implications and defuzzyfication methods. Such variations allow students to learn fuzzy logic as well as approximate reasoning concepts along with system dynamics simulation. In this paper, a DC motor has been simulated and results have been compared with the DYNAMO software package which supports simulation of dynamic system using causal loops (16 refs.)
