About Dhandapani Ashok

Dr. Dhandapani Ashok is a pediatric gastroenterologist and hepatologist whose research mainly addresses non-invasive diagnosis and monitoring of various liver and bowel diseases, especially pediatric liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and eosinophilic esophagitis. He is a principal investigator for several Pharma trials using novel agents and biologic therapies.

Research
Dr. Ashok is passionate about medical innovation. He is a member of NASPGHAN technology committee and collaborates with biomedical engineers to innovate and create novel medical technologies. He is a founding member of the Canadian Pediatric Hepatology Research Group and the Pediatric Eosinophilic Esophagitis Consortium. His research primarily concerns the epidemiology, diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of chronic eosinophilic GI diseases; metabolic liver disease; chronic viral hepatitis; and drug induced liver injury.


Dr. Dhandapani Ashok, MBBS, MD, FRCPCH (UK) joined the Department of Paediatrics at the Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences in October 2012.

Dr. Ashok graduated from Madras University and completed postgraduate training in Paediatrics in Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai, India. In 1999, he moved to the United Kingdom and trained in various university teaching hospitals during his paediatric residency program. He developed a keen interest in childhood bowel and liver diseases and completed the paediatric gastroenterology fellowship training program in 2008. He gained specialist knowledge & breadth of experience at prestigious hospitals: Birmingham Children’s Hospital, a major centre for intestinal rehabilitation, Liver & Small Bowel transplantation, Sheffield Children’s Hospital, a busy diagnostic & interventional endoscopy centre and Great North Children’s Hospital, a centre for intestinal failure and rare immune gut disorders. He practiced as a consultant paediatric gastroenterologist in Hull & East Yorkshire University Hospital, UK for 2 years.

Area of speciality and research interests:
Dr. Ashok’s specific clinical interests are paediatric liver disease, eosinophilic disorders and inflammatory bowel disease. He also maintains a broad interest in all aspects of paediatric gastroenterology & nutrition. He is passionate about developing his career as a physician innovator. He has established partnership with the Western Medical Innovation Programme to develop novel medical technologies.

Dr. Ashok is an active member of the Canadian Paediatric Hepatology Research Group, Paediatric Eosinophilic Esophagitis Consortium and NASPGHAN Technology Committee. He is currently pursuing research interests in non-invasive diagnosis and monitoring of childhood liver diseases, eosinophilic disorders and inflammatory bowel disease.
