Abstract

Correspondence in the Special Collections Department reveals how two sets of cannons became monuments on the campus of the University of Maine. When the United States War and Navy departments made obsolete ordnance material available to organizations like museums and municipalities interested in displaying them, UMaine engineering graduate Llewellyn Edwards initiated an effort to acquire these items and have them brought to Orono.
