About Denika Douglas

Dr. Denika Y. Douglas earned a B.A. in Psychology from Texas A&M University and a
Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Houston. After completing her
degree at U of H, Dr. Douglas worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Psychological
Services and Special Education Departments of the Houston Independent School District.
Dr. Douglas came to TSU as a Visiting Professor in 2012 and earned a tenure-track
faculty position a year later.
Her research interests include body image after physical and psychological trauma,
school-based interventions, and suicide-prevention. Dr. Douglas is a Licensed
Psychologist and a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology. Her areas of clinical
specialization include depression, anxiety, trauma, and crisis intervention. She also
serves as a board member for the National Women with Disabilities Empowerment
Forum, a non-profit organization.
