About Del Parkinson

Dr. Del Parkinson is professor of piano at Boise State University, where he joined the faculty of the Department of Music in 1985. Before coming to Boise State, he was coordinator of piano instruction at Brigham Young University-Idaho for eight years. Dr. Parkinson holds a doctor of music degree from Indiana University and a postgraduate diploma from The Juilliard School. He was the recipient of a Fulbright-Hays grant for graduate study in London. His London debut recital was on the American Bicentennial Series, and his New York debut recital in Carnegie Recital Hall was sponsored by the Idaho Commission on the Arts. He has performed throughout Europe, Mexico, and the United States as a soloist, as a duo with Madeleine (Hsu) Forte, and in the American Piano Duo with Brigham Young University professor Jeffrey Shumway. He has been featured with the Guadalajara Symphony, the Indiana University Symphony, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Utah Symphony, the Boise Baroque, the Boise Philharmonic, and recently with the Orquestra Sinfônica de Sorocaba in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Dr. Parkinson's many honors include the Boise State University Foundation Scholar Award for Creative Activity, the Boise Mayor’s Award for Artistic Excellence, the Morrison Center Honor Medallion, the Idaho Commission on the Arts Career Fellowship Award, and the Idaho Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts. He has shared his love of music, the arts, and travel with the Boise State community through his lectures, workshops, and master classes, and by leading music & art tours to New York, Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Paris, Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, China, Ireland, Scandinavia, Germany, Galápagos, and Machu Picchu.
