Abstract

Report cards comparing the performance of organizations, such as hospitals, public schools, and colleges, have become ubiquitous. Under what circumstances are report cards desirable alternatives to other policy instruments, such as regulation? How should report cards be designed? Who is likely to use them? What impacts are they likely to have on organizational behavior? What role, if any, should government play in creating or facilitating report cards? Organizational Report Cards answers these questions.
