David Owerbach obtained his PH.D. in biology from the University of Buffalo and received post-doctoral training at the University of San Francisco Medical Center. He was subsequently a research scientist at Novo-Nordisk in Denmark, Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester MA and Associate Professor at Baylor College of Medicine here in Houston. His area of research expertise is in the area of molecular genetics of diabetes and he has published 57 peer-reviewed papers and received multiple research grant awards in this field. He has also received a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Houston and is certified by the State of Texas to teach all high school sciences. In January 2011, he came to Texas Southern University as a Proposal Development Officer for the Sciences and currently does proposal development for all TSU faculty and also runs the Undergraduate Research Program. Some of the large grant proposals he has helped get funded include the ongoing RISE and CREST grants from the National Science Foundation and the current RCMI grant from the National Institutes Health.
