About Rev. David T. Orique, O.P.

Fr. David Thomas Orique, O.P. is Associate Professor of Colonial and Modern Latin American as well as Iberian Atlantic World History and the Coordinator of the Latin American Studies Program at Providence College. In addition to having lived, traveled, and conducted research in Spain and Portugal, as well as other European countries, he has worked in fifteen Latin American countries for investigative purposes.

In 1986, he graduated from California State University Fresno with a B.S. in Business Administration and a minor in Spanish, and then worked for 12 years in the business world before entering the Dominican Order in 1992. Subsequently, he earned a Master of Divinity and a Master of Theology with special emphasis in Luso-Hispanic historical and juridical studies. After ordination to the priesthood in June 2001, he served the academic pastoral needs of St. Thomas More Newman Center at the University of Oregon as well as the spiritual needs of the rapidly growing Latino community in the Archdiocese of Oregon, and other locations. In 2007, he completed a Masters in History at the University of Oregon and a Ph.D. in 2011.
