About David B. Hollander

I study the economic history of late Republican and early Imperial Rome. I am the author of Money in the Late Roman Republic (Brill, 2007) as well as articles on Roman coinage, agriculture, and trade. I was the area editor for economy for The Encyclopedia of Ancient History (ed. Roger Bagnall et al., Wiley-Blackwell, 2012) and continue to serve in that capacity for its online editions. I cochair the Society of Biblical Literature Early Christianity and the Ancient Economy program unit and am on the editorial board of the Ancient History Bulletin. Currently I am co-editing a Companion to Ancient Agriculture and writing a monograph on Farmers and Agriculture in the Roman Economy. An essay on Roman interest rates is forthcoming in the Oxford Handbook of Economies in the Classical World , edited by Alain Bresson et al. (Oxford University Press) and an overview of the Roman economy in the first century of the Empire will appear in Paul and Economics, edited by Blanton and Pickett (Fortress Press).
