Abstract

The article focuses on the elastic and inelastic neutron scattering, the two types of scattering that use neutrons as the probe of matter. It mentions that spallation is a way of generating neutrons that are subatomic particles found in the nucleus of atoms. It adds that neutron diffraction determines the structures of solids, liquids and gases in elastic scattering. On the other hand, neutrons interact with samples in inelastic scattering that is similar to the classic forms of spectroscopy.
