Beaver restoration in the Southwest
Restoration Notes
(2018)
Abstract
Beaver play a critical role in watersheds of the Southwest. Removal of tens of thousands of beaver from streams and rivers led to ecosystem decline and severe disruption of stream hydrology. Retruning beaver to these streams and rivers can improve water retention, extend stream flow through the summer, reduce flood flows, and support biodiverse riparian habitat.
