Abstract/Excerpt

An example of a man who committed a violent crime illustrates how careful analysis of data (e.g., witness statements, police reports, videotaped and actual interviews with family and friends) can cast doubt on the validity of psychoanalytic formulations in explaining the defendant's behavior. The example emphasizes how these practical considerations render the methodology of a forensic evaluation different from a traditional clinical evaluation.
