About David Peterson del Mar

David Peterson del Mar is an associate professor at Portland State University. The author of seven books and many articles on topics ranging from family history and family violence to nature loving to African Education to U. S. views of Africa, he teaches for the History Department and University Studies. His two favorite classes are a 300-level course on the history of the American Family and a Freshman Inquiry course on Immigration, Migration, and Meaning. He is the President of Yo Ghana!, a nonprofit devoted to helping youth in West Africa and the Pacific Northwest inform, inspire, and care about each other and is always looking for ways to get Portland State students involved working with vulnerable students in the Portland Metro Area.
