Georgia’s Bicentennial County Histories: The Present in the Past
Southern Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal of the South

Abstract
Looks at the three dozen Georgia county histories published in the 1930s on the occasion of Georgia’s “bicentennial.” These books tell us as much about Georgia in the 1930s, especially the role of the Lost Cause in shaping white Georgians’ historic memory, as they do about the state’s earlier history.
