Was the “Wizard of Oz” a Feminist Tract?

Abstract
Discussed the possibility that the character Boq in L. Frank Baum’s Wonderful Wizard of Oz represented Edward Bok, editor of Ladies Home Journal and an opponent of the “New Woman” of the late 19th century. I suggest that Baum was getting in a little jab by naming a character in this feminist-oriented children’s story for Bok.
